Critical Amendment 5 meeting on the 29th!

We wanted to put out an initial notice about a very important meeting that will be taking place on Thursday, September 29th. The meeting will be in Danvers, MA, at the CoCo Key Resort and Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Ferncroft) located on 50 Ferncroft Road. The meeting will begin at 8am and is set to go all day.

As you all know, the Council staff has been working to put together the Draft EIS for Amendment 5 for awhile now, with the hopes of having it done for the NEFMC meeting at the end of the month. It appears that they will get this document done in time and therefore the meeting on the 29th will be very important. It’s critical that people show up for this meeting, as the Council will be choosing the alternatives that will be moving forward into the public comment stage of the process. This meeting will basically set the tone for everything that goes on through the final stages of the development of the amendment. The main thing we will want to be pushing for at the meeting is for all of the important components of the document to stay intact, and for the Council to put forward a full range of alternatives to go out to the public with.

Given that its Labor Day weekend we will not go into much more detail here, but we will be posting a lot more information in the near future. We just wanted to get this meeting on everyone’s radar and to ask that you please try and make plans to attend. It will also be important to send in comments. Please start spreading the word to make sure others are aware of the meeting, as well.
