Miss Laney Might Be A Giant Next Year

A small, ivory-white Maine herring seiner, Miss Lanie, moved to Gloucester this fall under the new ownership of Western Sea Fishing Co. The 46-foot fiberglass boat docks at Jodrey State Fish Pier in the forefront of her owner’s giant mid-water trawlers, Challenger, Endeavour and Voyager.

But, as small as the Miss Lanie is, and as the herring rules change, could she become a key player in WSF’s summer operation, and will herring seining then make a comeback in herring management Area 1-A?
